The World Trade Center fell.

I didn't lose anyone close to me and it didn't change my day-to-day life. But like a lot of people, I carried it around with me for months, having no idea where to put that strange mournful anxiety.

Then my last grandparent died, my dad's mom - Grandma Moorhead. She was sharp and happy and lived to a ripe old age. Her voice was the voice of my children's books. Her house was the Christmas house.

When Grandma Moorhead fell, everything changed, for better and worse. It was a hard time but, like all hard times, it was freeing, too. To be up against something as momental as that loss, it gives you some clarity, frees you up from sweating the small stuff.

That's where these songs came from, all except for 'Nothing Rhymes', which is for and about my wife. But that song is very at home here, too. I hope it all makes sense when you listen.
